The Purple Raccoon is a children's fantasy adventure story by Sara Furlong. Ten-year-old twin siblings Sam and Cindy Porter had no idea what they were in for when they were sent to spend the summer with their grandparents, Tom and Lois, in their cottage on Lake Muskoka, Canada. When Tom starts recounting his encounter from sixty years ago with the purple talking raccoon, Rosco, Cindy and Sam initially have a hard time believing their grandfather. But soon, they discover that not only is Tom's story true, but Rosco is still alive and wants their help to find two of his missing friends. With Tom's age preventing him from taking part in this new adventure, it falls upon Cindy and Sam to take over their grandfather's mantle and help Rosco and his friends find their way back to their world.

Author Sara Furlong brings a sense of wonder and adventure to the narrative that makes it an absolute joy to read. The Purple Raccoon is the story of two ten-year-old twin siblings finding themselves on an adventure of a lifetime during a magical summer with their grandparents. The characters are colorful, both literally and metaphorically. Their vibrant personas pop out of the pages while the author keeps you invested with a fascinating plot full of mystery and intrigue. Sam, Cindy, Tom, Rosco, and Charlie were some of my favorite characters from the bunch. I also found Sam and Cindy's sibling dynamic particularly adorable. The Purple Raccoon is a wondrous fantasy adventure book that anyone below twelve will adore.

The Purple Raccoon by Sara Furlong is a fantasy book for children. One day, twins Cindy and Sam prepare to visit their grandparents at their cottage. They would be staying there for the whole summer and were a little reluctant to go, as they wouldn't be able to see their friends. Nonetheless, they set out on the journey and arrived at the cottage. They immediately headed for the lake and swam to their heart's content. Later on, during dinner, a storm broke out and cut off the power. Cindy and Sam were left without any kind of entertainment until their grandpa offered to tell them a story about a purple raccoon with magical powers! Cindy and Sam were immediately interested in hearing the tale and were eager to know what happened. What kind of powers does the raccoon have and what else will Cindy and Sam learn about their grandpa's adventures?

The Purple Raccoon was a lot of fun to read. Children of all ages will love this incredibly well-thought-out and detailed story by the talented Sara Furlong. Her imagination knows no bounds when it comes to creating captivating content for young readers. Although there are no illustrations for the reader to enjoy, the characters have been written well enough so that you can imagine how they look, especially the purple raccoon! With lots more adventure to be unraveled, I feel this book will be the perfect bedtime story for any child. I enjoyed every word of this wonderfully adventurous book and can't wait to see what happens next in the story. Keep up the good work!

In the children's novel The Purple Raccoon by Sara Furlong, Cindy and Sam have to spend their summer holidays with their grandparents. While Cindy does love them, she was not too keen and even tried to fake being sick to get out of it. She was sure she would be bored all summer long. What she did not expect was that this particular summer would be the most exciting of her life so far. It all begins with a story their grandfather tells them during their stay. He claims to have experienced quite an adventure with a purple raccoon and other animals with unusual colors. The children soon find out that their grandfather's story is not just a made-up fantasy: these animals exist, and now they need help.

I didn't pick up The Purple Raccoon by Sara Furlong because I am a child (far from it) or because I have a child to read to. I chose this book because the title interested me. I like everything purple and wondered how a raccoon would fit in with that color. I ended up enjoying this little story quite a bit even though it's not aimed at adults - but who doesn't enjoy a relaxing read now and then? I know that as a kid I would have loved the story and I could even imagine it turned into a cartoon. The characters come alive on the pages, and I wouldn't mind reading more about the world of these colorful animals. What does their world look like? What do they do? There's potential for a fun series full of adventures.

The Purple Raccoon by Sara Furlong is a story about an adventure experienced by a young girl, and to a lesser extent, her twin brother. The book begins with the twins going to their grandparents' home for the summer. Their grandfather tells them a fascinating story about anthropomorphic animals, including a purple raccoon. The grandfather’s story evolves to where the twins get involved in a situation where they must help the animals and have only a limited time to do so. Furlong doesn’t say what the target age group is for the book, but students in the upper levels of elementary school would have about the right level of knowledge and maturity to read it. The protagonist, Cindy, who tells the story in the first person, is 10 years old when the story takes place, which would be about 5th grade.

The Purple Raccoon is a charming book. Sara Furlong hooked me from the early pages with her insightful descriptions of her protagonist, her brother, and their grandparents. The story the grandfather told about anthropomorphic animals was creative, imaginative, and fascinating. Although the book is a fantasy, Furlong’s superb writing brings readers into the story and overcomes the suspension of disbelief that we naturally have when reading a novel. There’s an intriguing twist near the end, which I didn’t see coming at all, and a satisfying conclusion. Furlong has a love for animals and communicates that love to her readers. I highly recommend this delightful book to readers at the upper elementary level. Parents, be assured that there’s nothing objectionable throughout the book. It’s a story of adventure, love, and helping those in need.

In the captivating children’s fantasy story, The Purple Raccoon by Sara Furlong, two siblings discover a hidden magical animal world and go on an exciting mission. Though Cindy tries everything she can to remain with her parents, nothing seems to work. Together with her brother Sam, she is sent to her grandparents’ cabin situated close to Lake Muskoka. For the first time on the trip, Cindy cheers up when she sees the quaint cabin set near the beautiful lake. Her grandfather tells them about his experiences as a young boy living in the cabin with his family. What Cindy thought would be a boring summer turned into a fantastic adventure. Sam and Cindy are also introduced to new, fabulous characters that need their help.

Sara Furlong creates lovely creatures that children will love. I loved that the adventures in the story incorporated the children. The book also contains unique scenes and twists that will stimulate children’s creativity and imagination. They will also learn valuable lessons about solving problems and working together. I appreciated that the story also encourages children to be intuitive, determined, and willing to help others. I also liked the way that Sam and Cindy’s bond strengthened during their stay in the cabin as they both grew and learned new skills. They also developed a closer relationship with their grandparents. The Purple Raccoon is a wonderful start to an amazing series. Children will enjoy its suspenseful adventures and original characters. They will also learn practical skills and important values.
