The Redemption of Callie and Kayden is Book 2 in The Coincidence series. Book 2 picks up where The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden, Book 1 left off. Author Jessica Sorensen shares just enough detail to remind the reader what happened in the last book. The Redemption of Callie and Kayden focuses on some very sensitive subjects. Callie was sexually assaulted by her brother’s best friend when she was twelve years old. Her personality changed; she went from a bubbly carefree girl to a withdrawn one with bulimia. Her mother seems oblivious of what happened to her daughter. Kayden has faced constant beatings from his father since he was a young boy; he cuts himself in an effort to diminish the pain he feels deep inside. Callie and Kayden love each other and know they can depend on each other and yet, Kayden feels he is not good for Callie and vows to stay away from her. She is determined to be there for him: however, it may mean exposing her dark secret to the world.

Jessica Sorensen set the bar high with the first book in this series. While I enjoyed this book, it does not quite live up to the high standards of the first book. The Redemption of Callie and Kayden lacks the deep intensity of the first book. I eagerly listened to the voice of Leslie Bellair as she narrates this tale. Her voice lends just the right nuance. I believe there will be a third book in this series; there must be a third book to have closure. I want to see more passion in the characters. Often the author repeated herself. Jessica Sorensen is a talented author and capable of so much more. This is a good book but it could have been a great book.
