Author Biography

Raised in Bowie, Maryland, Mark Reefe moved his homestead to the beautiful Shenandoah Valley a couple years back where he now resides with his lovely wife, two boys, and one devilish dog. After twenty five years of catching bad guys and causing mischief in various law enforcement and security positions with the federal government, he decided to "take the road less traveled" and pursue his passion for writing. The places he has been and the people he has met in his colorful past helped him create a vivid and dramatic world in his first novel, The Road to Jericho and second novel, El Sendero . His third novel, tentatively titled The Valley of Hinnom, is under contract with a pending release date. When he isn't writing, Mark enjoys woodworking, camping, breaking small appliances when they don't appear to be working, apologizing to his wife for breaking the previously mentioned appliances, and bourbon, (though not necessarily in that order).

The Road to Jericho by Mark Reefe is the story of a man who did one good deed and his reward was devastating. All Finn McCallan did was to save the life of a woman. She was badly injured and he helped her; however, this interested a powerful demon in him. The demon thinks Finn’s actions are amusing, so he and Finn get into a contest. Finn is tricked into accepting it, because he is promised to find his soul at the end. However, he definitely bit off more than he could chew. With his new abilities, he can see something far more than the human mind, body and soul. It is a dark and dormant power that allows him to gaze into people’s souls. But if he can see everyone’s souls, he knows who is bad and who is good. Does that mean he can do something about it? Would he be able to do it? What about that demon?

With Halloween just around the corner, this novel had the right amount of spooks and thrills to set my mood for the upcoming holiday. Granted, it is not a horror that will make you hide under your bed covers, but I would advise that you don’t read it at night. Heed my advice, friends. The atmosphere is very dramatic and goosebumps inducing. The scenarios and the dialogues make this novel too real for comfort, which honestly made me appreciate and enjoy it more. This is a solid work of fiction that will keep you up at night because you will be afraid to sleep and because you will not be able to put it down. More than just a horror story, I loved it.
