The Scalian Legacy by Norbert Monfort is a science fiction novel that would appeal most to a mixed audience of young adults and adults who enjoy extraterrestrial adventure stories. Jack Felder is on a trip with his friends and family in the Amazon when the group discovers an alien looking vehicle, the size of a house, that abducts Robbie and Marcelo. Against the wishes of Chris and Kenny, Jack refuses to travel back to Macapá for help and instead creates a plan to sneak aboard the vessel to rescue Robbie and Marcelo. What should have been a simple rescue mission quickly turns into an adventure with the fate of entire planets on the line.

The Scalian Legacy by Norbert Monfort has a cover that practically screamed science fiction which, in turn, immediately attracted my interest. I like the fact that the book began with a prologue that took place around a different planet as it gave a hint of what was to come. Jack Felder quickly became my favorite character when he displayed his bravery and intelligence in not only coming up with a way to get into the vessel that had abducted Robbie and Marcelo, but in being willing to follow through with the plan. I really loved Jack as a character because he is the type of protagonist that is able to adapt and use his wits in any situation he finds himself in. Overall, I greatly enjoyed reading this book and I loved how it explored more the culture and beliefs of a different planet. So many science fiction books focus only on Earth so this book really set itself apart from the norm.
