The Seven Year Hitch by Terry Sweeney is a short and vivid memoir about the author’s years on the road. Author Terry and her husband Joe packed their bags to chase after a dream. They left their jobs, sold everything they had, and bought an RV to travel around the USA. They thought they would have fun; they would enjoy their time on the road and they did. However, there were times when they were short on cash and needed a place to stay. Finding work on the road is not easy, but they weren’t expecting it to be easy. They got to experience the national parks of the country, saw natural beauty in its raw form, and took up odd or seasonal jobs to stay afloat. Join them on their journey as they live their dream.

The Seven Year Hitch by Terry Sweeney is an incredible story of a couple who literally packed their bags and hit the road. There is humor in the story, there are times when emotions are running high and then there are moments when Terry and Joe are just happy being wherever they are. The descriptions and imagery are exceptionally detailed. The narrative is rich with little gems where the author explains the scenery and you will feel like you are right there with them. I enjoyed the no-holds-barred approach of the author. She kept the door open for conversation, allowed the reader to make their assumptions, and simply shared the best time of her life. I wish I had the guts to do something so daring yet so simple to bring me happiness.

Thinking about buying an RV and hitting the road? This personal memoir, The Seven Year Hitch, is more than just a travel log. Yes, the story takes place around the turn of the century in the American Wild West but Sweeney offers plenty of timeless suggestions. Pick-up a copy for your re-creational onboard library.
