Author Biography

So to introduce myself, my name is Jenaya Vander Stoep, I am 21 years old, I currently live in Logan, Utah but I did spend most of my growing up years in Idaho Falls. But a little about myself, I am working as a life skills aid at an elementary school for the Special Ed kids there and I plan to go to college and become either a Special Education Teacher or study archaeology. But of course one of my other big dreams I’ve had for a long time is to be a well-known author and hopefully have The Six Tribes series become prominent in the book world. For inspiration in writing my book, I was very young and had moved away so it was a difficult time for me so I began writing my book and found comfort in that and escaping into the new fantasy world I was creating. I've been writing short stories since I was in the fourth grade, so I've always had that spark to write within me, but I began writing longer books when I was twelve and that's when The Six Tribes was born and I've continued writing the series ever since.

Who doesn’t love an adventure story full of magic, creative characters, animals, deep friendships, evil, and dragons? The Six Tribes by Jenaya Vander Stoep delivers all that and more. This outstanding book follows six animal tribes: the Bear, Dog, Cat, Critter, Bird, and Deer. The plot is based on an imaginary world of half-human woodland creatures and half-spirit animals. When the woodland people come of age, a beautiful ceremony brings out the child’s spirit animal. The main character, Hutch, a boy who is finally of age, receives his spirit animal during the ceremony. He hopes he is gifted with a strong, fierce, knowledgeable animal; however, his world is rocked when Hutch doesn’t receive the spirit animal he expects. Hutch has to learn to adapt to his new animal and love what he is. While discovering the possibilities of his spirit animal, Hutch and his friends, Cluff and Ceta, are thrust into the probability of war between the stone people. They have to learn how to protect their family, friends, and the world they know.

The Six Tribes will captivate you from the beginning all the way to the end. I found myself turning page after page, not putting the book down. This fantastic coming-of-age tale is not only perfect for young readers. I know adults will find it a fun and exhilarating read. Jenaya Vander Stoep’s writing draws the reader in and allows them to see each character as if they were face-to-face and a part of their lives. The scenes between each character transitioned quickly and seamlessly moved the reader through the story. The dialog between the characters was well written and portrayed a close connection between each individual. Throughout the whole book, I laughed, cried, and cheered the characters on. Personally, if this was adapted to a television series, my entire family would want to watch it. This mystical book will leave you wanting more. I was ecstatic to see the author end the book in a way that would make for a sequel. I will be looking for the next installment and can’t wait to share it with my son.
