Madam Celeste is a well-regarded psychic in Gloryville, Texas. Emma is a college student working towards a degree in psychology or social work. She also is a gifted psychic and Madam Celeste agrees to mentor her in developing her psychic abilities. Emma also works as an assistant in her office. Cheryl Brently had an unusual experience in her family home which currently was not occupied by her mother or herself. When she went in to retrieve some paperwork from her father’s office, the house was full of spider webs and she had an uneasy feeling. She called a group of her friends to go back with her; the friends included Robert who was a ghost hunter and had an array of ghost hunting equipment. After more scary experiences, they called Madam Celeste and she and Emma became active consultants in solving many mysteries involving the Brently home. The paranormal mystery, The Spider House, written by Linda Anthony Hill, is full of thrilling twists and turns throughout the story.

There is a large cast of characters with interesting relationships growing between them. The most intriguing relationship is between the two psychics, Celeste and Emma. While Celeste, also a trained psychotherapist, has been doing this work for many years, Emma is new to the field and more naturally gifted than Celeste. Celeste encourages research and experiential learning for Emma; the reader also learns more about psychic phenomena. The story is well-written and fast-paced, keeping the reader engaged from the first page to the last. Author Linda Anthony Hill has written another riveting winner in the Madam Celeste series, The Spider House. A fascinating read!
