The Survivors is a dystopian horror novella by T.C. Weber. In the distant future, climate change has rendered the planet uninhabitable, leading to the collapse of human civilization as we know it. Lucy, a young woman with two children, lives with a small group of people who have made an abandoned tower their sanctuary. A devastating storm forces the rag-tag bunch to search for a new home. Eager to flee the group leader and her two lecherous sons, Lucy finds another group of survivors living in a church. However, tragedy strikes when Lucy's people massacre her new friends. Soon, she is forced to fend for herself in one of the Vanished Cities, where survival depends on devouring others, and there are no limits to human depravity. How will Lucy and her children survive?

Fans of dystopian survival stories will be hard-pressed to find a better book than this. The Survivors is a gritty horror drama that readers who like dystopian fiction such as The Walking Dead will devour with relish. I gobbled it up in one sitting. Well-paced and filled with twists and turns, T.C. Weber's tale is full of surprises and will have you biting your nails with a narrative doused in suspense, tension, and horror. The characters are well-developed, with distinct traits and personalities that give agency to their actions. At first glance, Lucy seems like a vulnerable woman trapped in her situation, but she shows herself to be a resilient survivor willing to do anything to protect herself and her children. Highly recommended.
