The Tale of Miss Susie and her Steamboat: And Other Songs from your Childhood Explained is a contemporary fiction novel written by Sonja N. Kreps. Susie has been finding that life after college took some getting used to. Her college romance with Evan didn't survive the demands of their different career goals and lifestyles, and it's been way too long since she's had a heavy date with a hot guy. Her career has also taken an awfully long time to get started. While her career choice was to be a party/event planner, she found herself taking a number of poorly paid and somewhat humbling positions, including being a sign spinner for a gold store, until she finally lucked into a planner job. Clarissa, her employer, is not the easiest person to get along with, however, and Susie's putting off returning to the office after setting up her first real party for as long as she can. While browsing a vendor's table, she's approached by a brash guy whose hotness overwhelms her instinctive sense of caution.
Sonja N. Kreps's contemporary novel, The Tale of Miss Susie and her Steamboat: And Other Songs from your Childhood blends the chick lit and suspense genres in an enthralling and entertaining story. Kreps has an inspired touch with characterization, and Susie and her friends quickly became fully-fledged people. I enjoyed seeing how Susie, Pat and Mary, who are totally different people, somehow work so well together both as friends and as a support system. The author keeps the suspense building from the very first meeting between Susie and Will, and she deftly adds subtle clues and hints throughout the story that contribute to a most impressive and well-planned conclusion. I got caught up in Miss Susie's Tale from the first page and had a grand time reading this fast-paced and suspenseful story. The Tale of Miss Susie and her Steamboat: And Other Songs from your Childhood is most highly recommended.
