Lara Prodan pens a dramatic tale of family, heritage and legacy in The Thin Thread of Destiny. Ever wonder about your origins or family tree? Is there some sort of secret hiding in your past? Daria never really gave it much thought, until she meets Vladimir Zlotov. Michael, Daria’s long time friend, introduces his new Russian co-worker to Daria. Vladimir is immediately taken by Daria. She looks like someone, but he can’t quite place who it is. Furthermore, he is interested in why she has a Russian name. When Daria introduces Vladimir to her parents, there is a weird and fretful recognition. They become concerned about the budding relationship between Daria and Vladimir. On Christmas Day, Vladimir attends Daria’s family celebration. Looking through an old family photo album, Vladimir recognizes the people in photo. Tension rises, and Daria’s parents’ worst fear is manifesting. Is it time to tell Daria the truth?

"Understanding the past means seeing the future.” The Thin Thread of Destiny is a tumultuous and sentimental journey; it is a discovery of origin, family and self. Lara Prodan writes an intricate overlapping plot for her cast of characters. It is a twisted tale of love and deception birthed in the past. The secrets of the past transcend time, haunting those living in the present. “Perhaps one day, our descendants paths will cross” are the words that echo from the past into the future. Prodan uses the first several chapters to introduce her main characters and to set the stage for intrigue. Her writing style is figurative and filled with provoking phrases, idioms and ideas concerning, love, happiness and family. The narrative authentically portrays Russian mannerisms, culture, and heritage. The dialogues are full of quotes from Russian philosophers and authors. The characterization was well developed. The characters truly are depicted as “thin threads,” lives intertwined, resulting in a helix strand of mysterious proportions. As the tightly bound threads unravel, each unique strand is defined, creating an “all is well” conclusion.
