The United World is the first entry in the Dystopian Sci-Fi Series by Craig Priestley, a wonderful opening with a fully drawn dystopian setting and a phenomenal conflict to spice up the plot. In a dystopian society ruled by The United World, citizens have only one option: to join the vision of the new regime, otherwise, they become outcasts. When John discovers the insidious plans of the government, he takes his wife and son away from their prying eyes, shocked by the discovery. All he wants is to protect those he deeply loves. After twenty years, Reece, his son, is a grown man and must face the same government with an oppressive idea of utopia. Rebellious, he embarks on a journey to fight back; his only companion is his dog. But what chances does he have against a ruthless regime?

The United World is a wonderfully imagined and well-executed tale that takes readers into a dystopian setting where the few are in favor of a utopia to control the masses. The writing is spectacular and the descriptions are terrific. Whether it is about the children playing recklessly and pushing one of them in front of a moving vehicle, teens shoveling “vomit into a bin bag like it was nothing but dirty clothes on their bedroom floor,” or some social commentary, Craig Priestley makes sure the image is strong enough to be imprinted in the mind of the reader. The dialogues are well crafted and the prose is excellent. The United World is fast-paced and filled with action, a story that follows an intrepid character poised against a dangerous government. The suspense is exacting and the plot is intricately woven.
