The Watcher, written by Jim Pugmire, tells the story of an incredible young man named Ethan Saher. Ethan has accepted his role as a “watcher.” His job is to watch people and their actions/interactions to determine the possible outcome of their choices in life and the results of what fate has in store for them. Ethan’s life-changing decision to accept his new responsibilities takes him from city to city in pursuit of adhering to the guidelines set by his mentor, Dr. Asambhav, a scientist who has dedicated his life to his chosen craft and in the process finds a way to possibly influence people and their futures.

The Watcher is expertly written with lively characters, an exciting story, cinematic descriptions, and the plot is well thought out. This novel is a quick, easy read filled with intrigue and anticipation, keeping the reader interested from beginning to end. I particularly enjoyed the minimal dialogue and the pace at which the story evolved; it is fast-moving and thought-provoking. I enjoyed this unusual story, the constant guessing as to what will happen next and how Ethan moves from place to place. The interwoven twists, turns, and intrigue of people's lives make for a thrilling novel with thought-provoking ideas that will have the reader asking themselves numerous questions about life, the universe, and everything else. There is no bad language or mature content, which makes The Watcher suitable for any age group. Jim Pugmire is a fantastic author who writes in a way that keeps the reader interested throughout the story and eager to know what happens next and how Ethan could influence the future, although, in this novel, there is no way to predict what that may be.
