Author Biography

Sharon Purtill was a stay at home mom and entrepreneur when she stumbled into publishing in 1998. That year, along with her husband, she wrote and published her first book. That book’s success took them both by surprise when it went on to sell tens of thousands of copies right out of their garage. Today, Sharon is an award winning author who publishes in multiple genres under a couple of different pseudonyms. Her passion for writing, family and a positive life motivates her to create books that she hopes will enrich the lives of others. She hopes to one day escape the cold, and write from a tropical beach somewhere where her biggest concerns will be sand sticking to her suntan lotion and an empty margarita glass. But, for now, Sharon treasures the warm summer months and the time she gets to spend with family and friends in Ontario, Canada.

Dark clouds, lightning, thunder! It is normal to be intimidated by the impressive forces of nature, but storms can help us in many ways. Sally is an engaging character who plays and dances among the clouds and causes storms and she will explain everything we need to know. Sally will tell us about the clouds, how the rain helps nourish the plants, or how water refreshes us after hot days. The Wonder Of Thunder: Lessons From A Thunderstorm is a great book that will show us how much fun rainy days can be. After reading Sharon Purtill's tale, young readers will have a more positive view of rain and storms. With Tamara Piper’s adorable illustrations, children will be drawn to this book

The Wonder Of Thunder is well structured and Sharon Purtill pays attention to detail. Sally is a friendly character, both in her nature and in providing her explanations. Sharon uses a rhythmic narrative that is easy to follow but is clear and concise when giving examples, while Tamara Piper’s illustrations are appealing. The images reinforce the ideas in a warm-hearted manner and I liked the vivid colors, while the places and situations will be familiar to young readers. This story allows you to discuss the subject with children so that they can put the fear of storms behind them. The book will reassure youngsters on stormy days because they will see that they have nothing to fear.
