Three River Ranch by Roxanne Snopek introduces us to Aurora (Rory) McAllister who is abandoned, pregnant, homeless, and looking for a fresh start near her good friend who owns a natural birth center. She thinks she’s found a good place to start over, but it turns out another person, Carson Granger, has a claim to the same house. Both are determined not to give up their dreams and thus they strike a bargain to share the place until a better arrangement can be made. Being thrust into such close quarters with such complicated situations creates opportunities to work together, build trust, and solve each other's problems temporarily. The problem is that neither of them is sure that they want it to remain temporary.

Three River Ranch is a modern love story that takes on the marriage of convenience plot line and surprises the reader delightfully with the delivery of something that usually works best in historical romance novels. I really loved the charming characters Snopek introduced me to that were a little off-beat, complex and believable - a 7-month pregnant heroine, a tree-hugger cowboy, and an outstanding cast of supporting characters like “the blister and the blight” who, I am happy to share, do make appearances in the other Three River Ranch books in the series. It’s writers like Snopek who create the happily ever afters we crave and keep me coming back for more of her stories, but in no way is her writing or her characters ever typical and boring.
