Through Dragon Eyes by Catherine Milos is the story of dragons, and the coming war that could destroy them. Zoe's family was killed by the Black Dragon when she was a baby and grew up to be the future Wise One Earthana's scaler. When she's finally able to learn about what else is out there, and journeys to the realms of merfolk and elves, she learns startling family secrets. As King Warrick vows to destroy all dragons in a plan to avenge his brother's death, Zoe must rely on her friends for help in order to find the Gauntlet of the Realms which is the only chance she has to save the dragons she loves.

Through Dragon Eyes is a coming of age adventure, following Zoe's journey of self-discovery as she searches for where she belongs. As half-human and half-elf, Zoe has often felt like she hasn't belonged, but her desire for knowledge leads her to travel to other realms. She doesn't quite find herself with the merfolk or the elves, but she finds pieces of herself through the people she connects with and the secrets she learns of her family's origins. The characters are well-rounded, loyal, and play well off each other. The world is rich and vast, with dragons, mermaids, elves, and humans, all striving to understand each other. Despite being a fantastical world, the similarities to the world are found in the fear and prejudices that Zoe faces in the realm of elves, and the stereotypes that King Warrick has about dragons being beasts. Catherine Milos excels with lovely prose, stunning descriptions, layered characters, and a riveting world you long to be a part of. A must-read!
