Throwing Smoke by Kit Sergeant is a quick young adult romance about a young man and woman as they discover life is not what they thought it was. Ryan is trying to make things work in life while hoping that the girl of his dreams at least acknowledges his existence. He knows Addy is the perfect girl for him, but she doesn’t seem to want to date anyone. Addy has many reasons not to date at the moment and concentrates on becoming a marine biologist. Will Ryan ever find the guts to introduce himself to her and start a romance that is bound to be epic? He would have to step out of his comfort zone and Addy would have to give love a chance. But will she allow herself to fall in love with someone who is actually worthy of her time and affection?

Throwing Smoke by Kit Sergeant is a quick story but it is a really good, fulfilling one. You will be invested from the get-go because the author will make you fall in love with her characters. Addy and Ryan are two very real and incredibly rich characters. Given the length of the story, I wasn’t expecting to come across such intricate characters. Addy and Ryan are authentic, they are quick thinkers with their own opinions. I enjoyed how fast the pace was and how sharp the dialogues were. There wasn’t any aspect that I wanted to change about this story and that is saying something.
