TIER Unit 3-1, Day One: Attacked is a terrorist thriller written by Lincoln James. Jack Miller had not expected to ever be back at the helm of TIER Unit 3-1; however, six months after his dismissal, he found himself walking through the doors of the operational hub once again. While many faces were familiar and applause rang loudly at his entrance, there were still some new faces. There was also a segment of the crew that had changed their allegiance during his absence to the new Tactical Special Agent in Charge, Carmella Watts. Watts had a decidedly different leadership style, and she handled Jack's regrettable undiplomatic take-charge comments with characteristic composure. Meeting with her at the time was Jack's nemesis, Hugo van der Veld, the assistant director in charge of the FBI's LA field office, and the newly elected mayor, Franklin T. Garcia. Jack's first day was not merely ceremonial, however; he had to hit the ground running as there was a shooting and hostage crisis going on at a V.A. centre.

Lincoln James' action thriller, TIER Unit 3-1, Day One: Attacked, gives the reader an in-depth look at a tactical strike team in action as they work to defuse a succession of terrorist attacks. Jack Miller is worth watching in this continuing series. His history with the bureau is hinted at in this first book, and had me instantly wondering just what merited the wrath of Hugo van der Veld. The Emir of Los Angeles is similarly an intriguing character who we'll no doubt see more of in the series. TIER Unit 3-1, Day One: Attacked is fast-paced and action-packed. We get to see the team at its best as they cope with a change in leadership style and attacks that just keep coming. Highly recommended.
