Tinsel and Tea Cakes by Jill Piscitello is a second-chance Christmas romance about finding the right person when you are at your lowest ebb. Scarlett Kerrigan accompanied her stepmother, Clarice, to a Victorian-themed wedding in New Hampshire. Scarlett agreed to attend the wedding because she needed relief from all the drama in her life. She had lost her job and apartment. To rub salt into her wounds, the man with whom she had a vacation fling after an instant connection has disappeared without a trace. The last person she expected to run into on her way to the wedding and at the hotel was her fling, Wes. As the two begin to reconnect, Wes insists that he has a perfect explanation for what happened. Can Scarlett trust him?

I enjoyed reading this book because of the plot line and the gradual unveiling of the story. Jill Piscitello added mystery and suspense from the beginning that kept me intrigued and glued to the book. The first mystery was the truth about what happened between Scarlett and Wes in Aruba. Scarlett and Wes do not disclose the details of their fling. It kept me wondering. The second mystery was that of a thief at the hotel. At one point, Scarlett became a spy, sneaking into a room to catch the culprit, which was hilarious. I also loved the secondary characters because they had interesting personalities, and I wanted to know more about them. Tinsel and Tea Cakes is a food-themed book, and Piscitello provides a selection of recipes at the end of the book. If you are in the market for a Christmas romance novel with a splash of mystery, then this is the book for you.
