Seventeen-year-old Lyris meets Wyatt, a handsome but strange and moody guy, in a coffee shop, who right away intrigues her about an abandoned house next door to hers – “the Shaw place.” Wyatt warns her not to enter a room in the house without him, let alone open any of the closet doors. Despite his warning, Lyris’ curiosity gets the better of her, and she finds herself in the world of giants, where humans are treated as pets.

The premise of To Nowhere by C.E. Wilson brings a new perspective into the fantasy genre with a fair blend of paranormal elements and it’s quite thought-provoking. It makes me think about our relationship with our pets. Brindt, Lyris’ captor, is a kind giant who wants to keep her as his own, but is he kind enough to let her go? Readers who are pet owners might question their relationship with their pet. The comparison seems far fetched, yet still has some similarities in terms of empathy in my opinion. The characterization has room for improvement. That said, Wilson treads on a new area in terms of fantasy fiction. Therefore, with its imaginative premise, To Nowhere is worth checking out.
