Tongue Twisted Two: Five Freaky Fables Featuring Full Frontal by Mark Blaise is the second installment of his collection of short stories, which consists of five more of his unique and sexy paranormal tales. He has an array of intriguing characters in these stories like Franklin, Fenton, Philip, Perrin and Pharaoh. Franklin is a gay waiter who finds himself in a compromising situation with Garbes in the restaurant’s cellar, where strange things are happening, and he eventually ends up in the hospital. Fenton is a Vietnam War veteran who left his material possessions to his nephew Draper when he died. During the funeral, Draper will meet his uncle’s lover, the literally ageless Angel. Seventeen-year-old Philip is bothered by what he calls a black curtain of amnesia and seeks help from a therapist. Perrin is in a relationship and he is about to divulge a family secret no one would expect. Pharaoh is a psychiatrist whose scars on both his thumbs make him a target of his patients who think he has supernatural powers. The collection also includes an LGBT card game called the Full Frontal Fours.

Mark Blaise’s Tongue Twisted Two: Five Freaky Fables Featuring Full Frontal consists of five stories that are exceedingly intriguing. All the stories are edgy and somewhat dark, but none of them are quite the same. Some stories have supernatural twists, others have more logical conclusions, and still others can make you ask what on earth am I reading? But having said that, this is definitely part of the charm of the author’s writing style. Eloquent, fluid and vivid, all the stories are definitely introspective. Some of his concepts may be hard to understand precisely because reading his stories is like going inside a strange person’s subconscious.

I particularly enjoyed the lengths to which Mark Blaise goes to set the tone of his stories, like the vivid scenes and the development of his characters, leading to an altogether interesting narrative. Tongue Twisted Two: Five Freaky Fables Featuring Full Frontal is absorbing, stimulating and exciting. This is a book for adult readers who enjoy something new, different and fascinating!

Tongue Twisted Two: Five Freaky Fables Featuring Full Frontal by Mark Blaise is a collection of five paranormal short stories that are sometimes scary and sometimes intriguing. The stories are written for adults with adult themes. In my opinion, this just makes the collection that much better. All of these stories are named after the main characters in each one, which simply enhances the reader’s experience.

The first story is of Franklin, who hears noises or voices coming from the cellar of the restaurant where he works. The second story is about Fenton; he came home from war with a new appreciation for life. Only, when he returns, he finds that the love of his life does not seem to age. The third story is about Philip; he seems to be the only one who remembers an event that no one else remembers. The fourth story is of Perrin; he has a secret that he has kept from everyone in his family and the world. The fifth story is about Pharaoh who went on a date that kept him from finding a place to hide. Plus, there is also a bonus story, but you will have to read the book to find out what it is.

The characters were all well suited to their own stories. I guess the character that jumped out at me the most was Franklin. He had a charm that was at once endearing and loving. The paranormal factor was also really good. I usually don’t like paranormal stories, but there was something about these stories that just attracted me. And I am glad I was not disappointed. This book was excellent.

Tongue Twisted Two: Five Freaky Fables Featuring Full Frontal is a short story collection by author Mark Blaise. The stories all focus on a paranormal theme with intriguing plots and enigmatic characters. Story one features waiter Franklin, whose flirting is interrupted by disembodied voices, whilst war-torn Fenton has brought a strange lover home with a dark secret. More secrets abound for Perrin that could potentially affect the whole of mankind, whilst Philip struggles with a memory of an event that apparently never happened. Pharaoh, our final hero, has a whole city to hide in, yet his latest date always seems to discover where he is. The stories also have LGBT themes and explicit sexual content, making for a unique reading experience unlike anything I’ve read before.

Fans of LGBT erotica will immediately be drawn to the fun, flirtatious aspects of Mark Blaise’s confident writing style, though they ought to be prepared for some supernatural shocks. For me, the interesting initial concepts of the plot of each story were a little overshadowed by the sexual element, but I’m certain others will be very happy with that balance. Blaise’s writing style gives a full sense of character to each of our protagonists, for whom city life is made just that little bit more interesting (and terrifying) by the strange phenomena which they encounter. Tongue Twisted Two: Five Freaky Fables Featuring Full Frontal is a quirky and highly inventive style of short fiction which is not for the faint of heart. Approach it with an open mind, and you’ll do just fine.
