Toward Happier Choices: A Coffee Conspiracy by Michael Oborn is a collection of thoughts or a recollection of a man’s journey as he moved towards believing in himself, understanding his worth and finding out that what he had in himself was always enough. The chapters felt more like essays written by the author in which he shared his thoughts and his experiences with the reader. I enjoyed how the author brought his ideas to the page and ensured that readers have everything they need to get invested in his thoughts. I enjoyed how the pace flowed from one essay to the other, connected the chain of thoughts and brought together a cohesive narrative. I also loved the fact that the author cherished the people in his life, how influential they have been and how much he appreciates that. Lady Meow was exceptional and perhaps my favorite character in the book, because who wouldn’t love Lady Meow?

Michael Oborn believes in leaving his traces behind so that the future generations can look into the elders’ lives and get answers. I think what the author did here is to show the people who matter to him that they have his attention and his love. You can almost feel the love and affection in the words he has carefully chosen for each person. These stories are not just praising his friends, family and other people who have influenced his life, but also reflect on his personal growth. You can feel the difference in the Oborn from the final chapter from the Oborn from the very first story. A very powerful narrative.
