In Truth Unveiled (Dr. Samantha Jenkins Mysteries Book 1) by Stephanie Kreml, a wedding is ruined when the bride's brother is found dead on the morning of the big day. Brad Johnson was a former addict and it seemed he had had a relapse that proved fatal. His sister, Claire, refuses to accept his death as an unfortunate tragedy and asks Sam to investigate. Besides, the deceased was a bully in high school and made life miserable for a lot of people. As a physician, Sam can definitely lend her expertise regarding Brad's medical report. However, when she finds proof of possible motives and sabotage, will she be able to expose the killer without becoming a victim herself?

Truth Unveiled has an intriguing premise and plot that give insight into the inner workings of the medical field. Medical terms, brief explanations of diseases and conditions are made comprehensible for readers as protagonist Sam Jenkins works diligently at the clinic while dealing with the aftermath of her broken engagement. The death of her friend's brother complicates her own feelings about her love life, her future in her profession, and a buried secret that threatens to destabilize her emotionally. It's easy to empathize with Sam as she tries her best to find the truth as there are moments where I feel her friends are slightly judgmental towards her during her investigation. The clear narrative is shrewdly filled with red herrings for mystery fans to navigate through before making their own judgments on the identity of the perpetrator. With a satisfying ending that resolves all of its puzzles, Stephanie Kreml's Dr. Samantha Jenkins Mysteries is off to a good start.
