Before I begin the review of Twelve Mile Bank by Nick Harvey, I would like to commend the author on his ability to create such vivid pictures with his words. Throughout the novel, I was able to hear what AJ was listening to, see what she was seeing and experience what she was experiencing. Nick Harvey has a gift with words and he knows how to weave magic with the words he uses. The environment he created, the atmosphere and characters, all of these things felt real to me. I could relate to AJ and wish to be her. This action-packed adventure novel might be one of my top 10 novels this year.
This is the story of AJ, a young woman who is a dive operator on the picturesque island of Grand Cayman. Her life is pleasant enough and she is trying to live it to the fullest. However, her life takes a turn when she realizes that she needs to do something about the secret her grandfather shared with her all those years ago. Her grandfather told her about a German submarine and the mystery around it. Now that a high flying Argentinean hunter is trying to find the truth about the mystery, it is up to AJ to uncover the secret first and find out what really happened.
Intense, action-packed and filled with adventure, this amazing novel took me on a journey with AJ wherever she went. I loved how the author cleverly jumps between two different time lines and still made sense to the reader. I enjoyed how the author brought the story to life by making the characters believable and realistic. I enjoyed the character growth and the development of the story. This is a brilliant read!
