Pro basketball player, Maurice Ousley is returning home to Chicago after a losing season. His stepfather picks him up at the airport. They notice a car is following them. When they stop, the other car pulls up, and grabs Maurice’s stepfather. He has till Friday to come up with $1,000,000 or they will kill him. The kidnappers caution Maurice not to go to the cops because one is involved. Can Maurice come up with the cash, save his stepfather and expose the dirty cop?

When I first started to read the story I thought it was going to be a sports novel, after the first few pages I knew that I was wrong. I could not put the book down. Maurice went from drug dealing to college and to the pros. Some of his friends were not that lucky and remained on the streets. This book takes the reader into the corruption of Chicago, from dirty cops, gangs, friends betraying friends to murder. Don’t turn your back because you do not know who your friend is and who the enemy is.

“Ulterior Motives" is a fictional book that could have been ripped from the headlines. It’s about choices people make every day. Choices lead to consequences which can affect them for the rest of their lives. It is easy to recommend this book.
