Unplugged: 15th Anniversary Edition by Paul McComas is a poignant and powerful story of the life of a 27-year old rock musician, Dayna Clay. As Dayna performs before her thousands of fans each night, while on stage she experiences thoughts about getting away, disappearing or even committing suicide. One day she cannot take it anymore and suddenly vanishes, ending up in the Badlands. Will this trip save her? Her fans are asking what happened to Dayna?

Prince, Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Whitney Houston, and Jimi Hendrix were before their time as artists. While we love their artistry and the music that they presented to the world, the reality is that they were torn and tormented individuals. They struggled almost daily with drugs, mental illness, alcohol, residuals from sexual abuse or incest, opioids, and a wide array of emotions from feeling trapped and alone to suicide. Artists that are constantly in the limelight experience a lot of highs and lows. With fame comes the lack of sleep and the constant need to continue to produce a quality product. As fans, we never know the experiences that musicians encounter.

This provocative book is ideal for music fans and I really loved it because it provides an in your face account of Dayna Clay from being an artist to being human. You will experience a firsthand account of the clouds of emotions that surround most musicians from hopelessness and depression to suicidal thoughts. In this book, the reader will experience the feeling of being a part of a musical production because this book has everything from songs and sheet music to the backstory of the book. This book offers excitement and intrigue as you read through the pages of Dana’s life. Do we as fans ever take the time to consider that musicians are human or, as fans, do we really care?
