Untamed Afterlife is a work of fiction in the interpersonal drama and suspense subgenres and serves as the latest installment of the Untamed series. It is aimed at mature adult readers and was penned by L.C. Son. The book follows villainous protagonist Chartreuse over a hundred years after her quest for revenge was satisfied and she began to rule over her home. But in the century since, that home has become a jail and the few sources of happiness in Chartreuse’s life have been extinguished. As she tries to decide what to do next in order to find peace, the call of the darkness grows ever tempting.

This is not a book for the faint of heart with subject matters such as sexual violence and abuse being addressed throughout the pages, but if you’re comfortable diving in, despite the trigger warnings included, then you’ll find within this book a fascinating character study of villainy. L.C. Son’s follow-up to Untamed continues its exploration of dark forces corrupting the soul, and Chartreuse’s journey to achieve personal peace continues to be dogged by tragedy and danger. The prose on show during this dissection of villainy is excellent and serves Untamed Afterlife well in providing an engaging and exciting world in which the story takes place. I was consistently excited to keep turning the pages as the story unfolded to learn about what obstacles Chartreuse was going to have to face next and what she would do in order to overcome them. Overall, Untamed Afterlife is an excellent tale about the nature of evil and I recommend this book highly.
