Vanished by Amy Rose commences with a couple packing for their long-delayed honeymoon on the coast of Florida. Jason and Alison spend a few blissful hours together and then go out on a boat. When Jason turns to Alison, she is suddenly not there! He reports this to the police, but they won’t undertake a search. After combing the beach for a few days, he is due to return home. Appealing to his brother Alex, Jason initiates a private investigation. Why was a brief distress video posted to Carson’s website and then anonymously removed? Could Alison still be alive? If you think you know the plot from the movies, I guarantee this adventure will be different.

Vanished by Amy Rose was an unexpectedly refreshing speculative read. I appreciated the contemporary style which was relaxing and comfortable. I liked both Alison and Jason, who have warm personalities. I enjoyed the fact that the husband and wife loved each other and there was no infidelity revealed; instead, there was an explanation. The creative use of a science-fiction concept was pleasantly free from unwieldy technical details. I developed some suspicions and was gratified to have my misgivings confirmed. Other important revelations came as complete surprises, challenging all my assumptions about the situation. Not knowing what had happened or whether Alison would be saved created suspense. The action scenes toward the end were stirring. The ending left room for a sequel, but I was satisfied the first mission was concluded. The book appears well suited for the young adult to new adult audiences.
