Venture Back Home is a work of fiction in the science fiction, speculative, and suspense subgenres. It is best suited to the general adult reading audience for its high-concept approach and was penned by author James Huber. In this riveting and thought-provoking work, we find familiar concepts in our daily lives taken to sinister new heights as the world of drones and the nature of our automated, computerized world is brought into the harsh light of day by a missing astronaut who returns home after many decades on another planet. What results is a chilling vision of where the human race might be headed, but is there any hope in such a bleak future?

Author James Huber has always had clever concepts up his sleeve, but this particular novel had me gripped from the off by the underlying sense of realism that this eerie tale of exploration and discovery purports. Ony’s adventure as a marooned cosmonaut is narrated with a keen sense of pacing to add suspense to the different emotions he experiences on the way back home, and the different relationships he makes along the way are realized through immersive dialogue. I liked the short chapter structure to keep the scenes shifting in a cinematic fashion, and the addition of different images and some portraits of characters also really helped to visualize and humanize the experience amidst all the hard science fiction developments of the tale. Overall, I would certainly recommend Venture Back Home for fans of detailed science fiction and speculative tales with an eerily realistic framing to them. A novel with much food for thought awaits you.
