Voodoo Hideaway by Vance Cariaga is a fascinating crime novel with an incredible twist. Elrod knew he was in trouble when the door materialized out of nowhere. On a closer look, Elrod discovered it was a blue door with pink windows around it. He knew opening the door and going inside was a bad decision, but he still did it. He met Douglas Flynn, the maître d’ of the place, which was a club. The club was proving to be a dream come true until a stranger came up to warn him. They wanted Elrod out of there. The Hideaway was proving to be more intriguing by the minute but Elrod’s instincts were screaming at him to get out of there. He knew he needed to leave, but something was holding him back. He could run away, or he could stay just a little longer to see what was happening. But will he survive for very long?

Voodoo Hideaway by Vance Cariaga was as fascinating as the blurb made it sound. The Hideaway was an intriguing place, and the way the author described it made me wonder how I would react to such a place. Elrod adapted a little too easily to the Hideaway but that worked in his favor. The moment Douglas was introduced, I knew he was bad news and was almost screaming at Elrod to run away. However, Red proved to be an incredible character who did the job for me. The author creates and develops some very colorful characters, each of whom gave readers the whole cinematic treatment. I enjoyed the dialogues and the suspense they created. As for my favorite characters, I adored Jade, Red, and, of course, Elrod. It was a fantastic novel!
