Della Temple has given the world a treasure with her book, Walking in Grace with Grief: Meditations for Healing after Loss. Della shares her journey of grief, when her 29-year-old son tragically dies in a car accident. Prior to his death, she had already explored the metaphysical realms and believed physical death is a transition to the spirit world. She also practiced mindfulness and was familiar with meditation. Using these beliefs and healing tools, she developed a new way of grieving, called conscious grieving. She did not avoid her feelings of sorrow; rather, she learned how to process her grief by becoming aware of and feeling her emotions consciously. Dealing with the practicalities of returning to her routines became manageable by remembering to live in the present moment.

This book contains a powerful story and practical tools for healing after the death of a loved one. The healing meditations are wonderful, as each one addresses a particular need for a grieving person. Matching meditations with each step of her journey demonstrates the most effective time to use them. I especially enjoyed Blowing Up a Rose; sometimes, the only way to release a strong emotion is to blow it up! Her instructions for each are easy to understand, whether or not you have ever practiced mediation. In Walking in Grace with Grief: Meditations for Healing after Loss, Della Temple reveals her intuitive compassion and wisdom by sharing her own story of loss and how she found her healing path. Della explains how she became stronger, gentler and more compassionate, giving hope to those who are grieving.

Walking in Grace with Grief: Meditations for Healing After Loss is a non-fiction spiritual guide written by Della Temple. In March of 2011, Della and her husband David were at home enjoying a quiet Sunday evening when a woman from the County Coroner's Office and a police officer came to their door. Della automatically thought that one of her children had died, and when they invited the two visitors to sit down with them in their living room, it was confirmed. Rick, their twenty-something son, had died in a car accident on a mountain road. Della went numb as she began making arrangements and informing family and friends of the sudden death, and she reported feeling as though she were having an 'out of body experience.' Her daughter, Megan, shared the news with her friend, Kitty, whose mother, AC, is a spiritual medium. AC told Della that she had been in contact with Rick, who had still been hovering by the accident site. He explained to AC that his reaching down to retrieve an object from the car's floor had led to him losing control and crashing. Knowing that AC was able to reach her son, and hearing her son's classic response patterns given by the medium, was infinitely comforting to Della. Over the days, months and years that followed, she was able to connect with her son, learn to give up on the stories she had constructed, and begin her healing process.

Della Temple's non-fiction spiritual guide, Walking in Grace with Grief: Meditations for Healing After Loss is a beautifully written and profoundly moving account of the author's journey to healing after the tragic and sudden death of her son. She shares so much of herself as she recounts that Sunday evening's knock on the door and hears the stunningly awful news. Temple does more, however, than simply tell her story; she presents a series of Meditations for Healing with step-by-step instructions for others to follow through each stage of their grieving process. I appreciated the fact that her meditations were easily accessible to practitioners of any belief system and were independent of any religious dogma or creed. Temple works in each meditation naturally in her discussion about her own healing process and the part each meditation played at each step in that process, and she eloquently shares the healing she herself experienced along the way. Walking in Grace with Grief is most highly recommended.

Walking in Grace with Grief: Meditations for Healing After Loss by Della Temple is the story of a woman who lost her very young son in an accident and how she came to terms with it. When Della's son died in a car accident, she knew that her son was completely gone, but still present in the spiritual world. Her grief was immeasurable, but with the help of meditation and her belief in the spirit of a person, Della was able to find peace and find a place inside her that is content with her life.

I read Walking in Grace with Grief: Meditations for Healing After Loss with a heavy heart and compassion. Everyone has their own way of grieving, there is no standard that can be fitted to everyone. What Della went through and how she came to grips with it is nothing short of phenomenal. Her belief in the spiritual life is shared by many people and I know many people will get help and strength from it. Grieving for the dead is a long battle; you fight it all your life. With the meditations written in the book, I found a profound sense of peace and oneness with not only my spirit, but with my lost one as well.

Della Temple wrote about an emotional journey in an empowering way. She proved that you do not have to give in to tears and loud cries. Your heart will keep on grieving for the lost loved one, but your life moves on. And Della encourages readers to find their center with the help of her story.
