Welcome the Weirds (Bienvenidas las Raras) by Delia Berlin is a bilingual book in Spanish and English, relating to two sisters, Poly Ester and Sal Ami, wonderful names for these two very weird and eccentric sisters, and how they see the world around them. They planted vegetables that no one liked, and if they lasted all summer in the ground, then they were given away as Christmas gifts! Or taking umbrellas when it did not rain, in fear of them losing their umbrellas. These two sisters delight the reader with their thoroughly weird and wonderful ways. At the end of each day, sitting outside drinking sour purple tea and eating stale tuna cookies, these two sisters while away their evening, thinking how lucky they were to live in such a lovely house and neighbourhood.

Welcome the Weirds (Bienvenidas las Raras) by Delia Berlin was a delightful story, well written with simple illustrations for a child to understand. This story could be easily read by a child of eight on their own or by a parent; in fact, the parent would enjoy the story as well. Books that are bilingual are very important, and help the young reader either to learn a second language or to keep bilingual children up to date with their languages. Delia Berlin has a delightful sense of humour which shows throughout the book, and will surely entertain the young again and again.
