We’re Still Here: The Secret World of Bunker Hill’s Historical Spirits is a work of non fiction by Marylee Trettenero which centers on the history of Charlestown. The author is a self-professed psychic medium, who weaves her own spirit channeling in with the established history of the area, to deliver personal accounts of what life was like for soldiers and others at Bunker Hill. The narrative also contains the author’s own story on her journey to becoming a psychic, and her reasons for engaging the spirits of Charlestown in her work. Overall, this entwining of the personal with the historical makes for a rich journey into the intricate workings of being a medium as well as uncovering the stories of the place itself.

I did find the synopsis of this book to be a tad misleading as it was, in the opening, more about the life and psychic practices of author Marylee Trettenero than the historical aspect, but the more I read, the more I enjoyed the unravelling tale of heritage and Trettenero’s work in Charlestown. The style of narrative is friendly and personal, which makes for an interesting and easy read, and the book contains many images and fascinating facts about the real history of Bunker Hill and its previous inhabitants. Overall, I feel that We’re Still Here: The Secret World of Bunker Hill’s Historical Spirits will be a highly rewarding read for fans of mediums and historical tales, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Charlestown area as well.
