Watson and Bill are Westies. Or, more accurately, West Highland white terriers. They’re small, cute and full of love and energy. A day with Watson and Bill is full of fun surprises, as well as the regular routine of eating, playing and just enjoying life with their human. Watson and Bill have simple needs: love, food and a safe place to live and play. They look so much alike, but they’re not related. Bill’s rounder with soft, curly hair, while Watson is taller with a short, crooked tail. Who wouldn’t adore such little bundles of white fluff?

Cindy W. Hollingsworth’s picture book story, Westie Tails: Meet Two Little Westies, is a fun story about two of the author’s cherished Westies. Told in rhyming verse and accompanied by beautiful, colorful illustrations by Jennifer Tipton Cappoen, this story really charms readers (both young and old) and will have everyone rhyming their stories about their own pets in no time. Starting with an introduction to the two Westies, Watson and Bill, the story leads the young reader through the daily routine, starting with a simple, rhyming description of the two Westies and concluding with the ritual of brushing both teeth and fur before settling down for the night.

The story is cleverly constructed and told with ease, allowing the young reader to enjoy a simple day in the life of a couple of beloved Westies. Pets bring an added pleasure and comfort to a person’s life and, through love and good care, they can be enjoyed and treasured unconditionally. This is a lovely story to introduce young readers to the importance of taking care of those you love. Pets are not playthings, but living, breathing souls that need care and attention. Charming story from beginning to end.
