"What is True?", written by Etan Boritzer and illustrated by Jeff Vernon, is an excellent book that will challenge children and encourage them to seek answers and to find out what really is true. The book begins with asking what is true and asking if you should believe everything you are told to be true or if you should find out for yourself if things are true. Then it is discussed that some things are true for some, but not for others as it is an opinion or perception. A brief discussion of lies are included as well.

This is a really cute book for children as it is filled with fun questions, ideas and scenarios and lively illustrations. This book will really make children think about what actually is true and what is not. It will encourage children to investigate things to find out the truth and how to learn more about something in order to prove that it is true. Great discussions will also result from reading this as it can lead to discussions about telling the truth versus lies, as well as how something can be true for one person, but it may not be for another person. There is a great section about lies, including possible explanations as to why a person would tell a lie. This will be an excellent book to share in a small group setting or even with one child at a time who may be struggling with telling the truth or knowing whom or what to believe.
