Where Did I Come From? The Adventures of Sammy the Turtle by Pam Funke is the story of Sammy the baby turtle who is all alone after coming out of his egg. He wants to find his identity and where he comes from. His mother Luna is not around and so Sammy sets out to find her and his brothers and sisters. On his journey to find his family, Sammy meets a lot of interesting characters and has exciting adventures. Some of the characters he meets are helpful, while some want to eat him. The subtle Christian message conveyed to readers through the story is both inspirational and motivational.

It is a delightful story with some charming and colorful sketches that will pull kids into the tale. The book teaches kids good values and gives them hope. It also teaches them how to improve their lives. Books like this can be used in Bible class to spread the message of God and also in read aloud sessions in classrooms and libraries. It is also a good book that can be read out to children at home. Apart from the Christian message, the book is also educational as the story introduces kids to new sea creatures like the octopus, crab, whale etc. I find it a great story for young readers. It's heartwarming, uplifting and exciting. The childlike illustrations add to the charm of the book, giving the characters a personality and making the story very visual and lively.

Thank you, Mamta Madhavan for that great review. I am so glad you enjoyed it.

This is such a fun book! Following a turtle from birth to its big adventure, the story and the cute illustrations will keep your little one entertained. Along the way Sammy runs into other sea creatures as well (crab, octopus, whale, etc.) in the search to find his mother and God. Very uplifting while still educational. Each chapter is a couple pages long, great for a kiddos early chapter book reading.

I am the oldest sister, age 10, of three younger siblings. We just finished this story about Sammy. The book is awesome, liking it so much, we like to read many times. We would really like to see a sequel to continue Sammy's adventures.

As Sammy tries to find his mother, he is on an adventure. With Someone helping him along the way, he faces dangers and finally finds his mother and then gets to meet God. This is a cute book with cute illustrations that would be great for preschoolers and young children to illustrate that God is always there on their journeys.

This is an excellent Christian book for children. The writer has many characters that grab your interest. This book is very well written and easy for children to understand about God and His creation. I really loved and enjoyed this book.

Imagine being a sea turtle and hatching on an isolated beach with your mother nowhere around. Your brothers and sisters have all gone and you are left alone to find your way in the world. This is what happens to Sammy the Turtle. Read of his exciting adventures as he searches for his family and learns about where he really came from. In his travels, he meets a number of interesting characters; some helpful, and others bent on eating him.

Pam Funke did a beautiful job writing this story and colorfully illustrating it. It is the kind of story that young readers will enjoy reading or having someone read it to them. I know that I plan to read it to my great-granddaughter.

What a delightful book. The story of Sammy, a hatched baby turtle, trying to find his way home to his mother. The analogy of us trying to find our way home to our Father in Heaven can be seen and felt by those who have a belief in a supreme being. I loved the drawings by Pam Funke and wished she had included more. They were so cute and child like. Too long for a bedtime story but could be read over several nights. A great story for a young reader who wants to read a book by themselves. I absolutely loved it!

Silvia

I just fell in love with this book. Reading about Sammy the Turtle’s journey to find his mother was heartwarming and an absolute delight. The baby turtle is very determined and doesn’t ever give up. He feels that someone is watching over him and helping him along the way.

This is a perfect read for young children and/or adults to read to children. They will love the adventure of Sammy the Turtle. This story is also about finding God and is a great way for children to learn about our savior.

I love the way the author presented this book and I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. You will truly be blessed and inspired by this precious story.

Pam does an excellent job telling the story of Sammy the turtle from his mother laying the eggs, to his being hatched and trying to find family. His adventures are exciting. I love the characters he meets and the fact that he also gets to know God. Great story to read to small children.

Book Reader

I loved this little story about Sammy the turtle. It begins with Mom laying her eggs then on to Sammy and his adventure in finding his family. He meets Nigel the crab after he saves him from the big bird. The small but brave Sammy shows how friends and family are very important. The best part of all, Sammy gets to meet God! Awesome story!.

I found this book to be delightful and wholesome and I give it a rating of five. The words used to tell the story are appropriate for elementary school children. They will fall in love with Sammy and be his cheering squad as he goes from sand to sea in search of his mother. He is faced with many other life forms that are hungry and try to eat him. Throughout the story Sammy meets sea creatures that guide him around the dangers as he continues his journey.
