Whisper: Book One (Whisper Trilogy) by Dana Faletti is a young adult paranormal story about Callie Evans. Callie is named after a Greek muse but soon learns that she is an angel, sent from Heaven to battle with Darks on Earth. On her sixteenth birthday, Callie is visited by two Micro Angels who coach the newbie angel warriors in training. Callie must fight Raysers, the demons who prey on teenage souls. This means Callie will forever remain sixteen to be a target of these horrible demons. But what happens when Callie wants to experience a normal teenage crush? She isn't sure if that is fair to Joshua or not. She won't age and he'll move on and live his normal life, while she'll be stuck fighting awful demons who are trying to suck out his life force. Callie thinks she can have both, but being with Joshua is clouding her judgment. Soon she'll make the kind of mistake the demons are waiting for, the kind of mistake that could destroy her forever.

This is a really cool, kick butt kind of story. Dana Faletti does an excellent job with creating Callie. She is a tough, empowered kind of girl that readers can admire and emulate, but she is also soft and vulnerable and has questions about love, life, and her future. She wants to be normal but also understands her important role in the world. Very nice balance that readers will appreciate.
