Whispers on a String by Kathleen Stone is a novel that stands apart in its originality and I loved the idea behind the story. Meet Lonny and Roo, who became best friends in 1975. They were just fourteen and in high school. The two shared many coincidences — same last name and same birthday — and the bond between them was formed quickly and became strong. But life eventually separated them after high school or so it seemed. But now, Lonny finds Roo. They are both fifty and Roo is broke and alone. So, Lonny convinces her to come with him on a cross country road trip from New York to Las Vegas. The experience opens a new page in their lives and strengthens a bond that has always existed. Follow these characters as they grow deeper and deeper into each other while facing challenges and situations that can destroy their lives.

Whispers on a String by Kathleen Stone is a beautiful story beautifully told, a story that drives home the idea that encounters aren’t accidental. The characters are fascinating and from the very opening of the story, I already loved the intimate tone which the characters use to address each other. The story is told from Roo’s point of view and in a gripping and exciting first-person voice. The choice of the first-person was brilliant because it comes across as authentic and pulls the reader easily into the world of the characters. Whispers on a String is a love story that is cleverly plotted and that features characters that I rooted for. They are well-developed and real. Kathleen Stone has the gift of creating characters that will stay long with readers and a tale that will inspire and entertain many.
