Billy is a loooong dog, a charming, sweet dachshund. He’s still a puppy, really, and he’s quite excited to see his first snowfall, to play in the snow, to feel the anticipation of Christmas and all the decorations and preparation that go along with it. He learns to chase snowballs, admire his owner’s snowman, and even help build it, and he learns to make snow angels. Billy even tries to skate on the ice but finds it too slippery for his liking. He much prefers chasing snowballs and making snow angels. There’s a lot of fun to be had in the snow.
Jessica Neal’s picture book story, White Christmas of a Loooong Dog, is a beautifully illustrated book full of Christmas and snow poems written primarily for children, but also for the dog lover in all of us. This book tells of the loooong dog's many adventures. Told in rhyming verse and with bright, bold, and colorful illustrations, this book will be a treasured possession to share for generations to come. The lyrical quality of this story makes the reader want to sing along as the dog charms his way into everyone’s heart. Jessica Neal shares all the fun and excitement of Christmas preparations, allowing Billy to feel the building anticipation and joy that makes everyone so cheerful. Billy’s first Christmas was full of so many fun and exciting things to see and do. It was also very exhausting. So what did Billy do? The book ends with several pages of illustrations for young readers to color, always a great interactive exercise. A beautiful, charming story.
