Who Am I Now? Feminine Wisdom Unmasked Uncensored by Isabel Banerjee is a “Womanual” that explores what it takes to believe in yourself and love yourself for who you are. It is actually more than that; it is the voice of every woman who wanted to move forward, do something, but was held back because of societal norms. This book is not just the story of Isabel but contains stories of many other women who share their triumphs, their concerns, their sadness and their ambitions with each other. The book contains prose, poems, lyrical narrative and even points for women to read, enjoy and gain knowledge from. Some stories are empowering, some make you feel a special kind of warmth, some will make you sad and some will make you happy for the success of other women. Isabel Banerjee gathered women from all walks of life and had them share their stories so that other women can find someone they can relate to, who understands what they are going through and basically find a bond that they lack with other people in their lives.

The language of this exceptional book is actually very simple yet so emotionally powerful. I felt a connection with the author the moment I started reading. Her reason behind starting this gem was phenomenal and I commend her on how she brought all of these stories together. The flow is incredible; she makes sure that the stories and narratives have followed a certain theme. The overall feel and atmosphere of the book are positive. I got an immediate boost just by reading a couple of pages. I think this is one of those rare books that I would actually keep by my bedside and read a couple of pages before starting my day because it is so empowering and comforting to read. This is definitely a special book, one that will encourage you and make you feel part of a community that always appreciates you.

Who Am I Now? Feminine Wisdom Unmasked Uncensored is a work of non-fiction focused on women’s issues, which was penned by author Isabel Banerjee. Produced as a ‘Womanual’ that provides guidance on life and adjustments, the work is aimed at Baby Boomer and Generation X women who are now entering a new phase of their lives where they may feel displaced from the modern world and unsure of their role as older women. Where the concept of a woman’s ‘sell-by date’ rears its ugly head, this compassionate and empowering guidebook focuses on topics such as self-love, genuine relationships and focusing on what you, as a woman, really want from your life regardless of societal expectations.

In the massive shift of the cultural and political climate around the modern woman, there are bound to be those who feel caught up and unsure of how to use the new powers that women are demanding and taking nowadays. Author Isabel Banerjee gathers these women to the bosom of all the womanly wisdom collected over time and imparts an excellent, well organized and highly optimistic guide about doing away with old expectations and looking towards an active and bright future. The narration is friendly, frank and unashamedly emotive, with plenty of shared experiences and examples to make readers feel less alone in the way they might be feeling. I thought the section on relationships was especially enlightening, and overall Who Am I Now? is sure to be an essential bedside book for thoughtful women who want to take control of their new lives.

Who Am I Now? Feminine Wisdom Unmasked Uncensored by Isabel Banerjee is a trailblazer, a book that addresses the theme of womanhood from a unique perspective. A sixty-five-year woman looks back at her life and asks the hard question — who am I now? In a unique voice, she takes readers through her incredible story, from a child who missed out on kindergarten and college to a woman who accumulated vast knowledge and wisdom from showing up in life. It is the story of how a pregnant teen with only a high school diploma became a business leader, influencing lives while embracing a singular mantra: “Lift as You Climb.” While Isabel Banerjee shares her story with readers, she also brings into the writing wisdom from her friends, women who redefine themselves.

While this book is written for women, I found it very enlightening as a man. It is packed with wit, wisdom, and insight, and it is one of those books that will, undoubtedly, inspire women today to look past the conventions and traditional beliefs that limit them to embrace who they really are, to determine what they can become. In the author’s own words, this story is: “…naked, raw, and trusting.” The author shares her vulnerabilities, her mistakes, and insecurities, and in so doing, she connects with readers and infuses the writing with an authenticity that is eloquent. The voice is very strong and confident. The prose is beautiful. But the message in the book has the potential to transform the way most women see themselves today. It is a must-read for every woman.
