Wooly Meets the Chickens: A Huckleberry Farm Book by Susanne Blumer is a cute little book. The story is about Wooly, the new farm dog, and how he meets the chickens on the farm. At first the chickens did not like Wooly because he was so loud, but after talking they became friends. Wooly then learns about all the different kinds of chickens there are.

Right from the start, the most striking thing I noticed about Wooly Meets the Chickens was the beautiful illustrations. The pictures are colorful and very detailed. I can even envisage hanging them up as artwork. I chose to read this book with my 4-year-old daughter because she is obsessed with chickens. Not only did she love this book, but now she can name a few of the different chickens we have seen at farms. Blumer even taught me a few things with this book. The first thing was I did not know chickens laid that many different color eggs. I always thought they were white or brown, but never pink. The other thing I learned is that Silkies cannot fly. I always assumed they could. Just like Wooly, these happen to be my favorite chickens too. After reading this book my daughter was singing the Egg Song all day. She really liked this book!

Wooly Meets the Chickens is a great book to read aloud to children. It is fun and educational. I loved seeing a book about chickens and hope Blumer writes more books about them and Huckleberry Farm.
