Author Biography

Evelyn J. Squires is the author of six young adult paranormal novels, and she has so many stories in her head that she's unable to get it all out on paper, only having time to write and edit three books per year.
As a former ballerina, she has always loved being creative, and when she retired from dance, she turned to writing—a former passion from college. As a direct descendant of the Vikings, she was always interested in her heritage, so naturally, her first series was "A Viking Blood Saga," a historical fantasy with ample amounts of romance, suspense and viking history.
Wraithsong, the first book in her second series, "Desirable Creatures," was released in March of 2014, and won the silver medal in the Reader's Favorite International Book Award Contest. When she's not taking care of her three children or at the gym, you can find her writing in her sun-room, on the couch to snuggle up with her hubby, or in between stirring the pot while making dinner.

Wraithsong by E.J. Squires follows the journey of Sonia in her graduation year at high school. She had known she was different to other children from a young age as she had the ability to control others by her thoughts alone. After her father's death, her mom became very protective and said that all would be revealed on her eighteenth birthday. Her powers become stronger when she meets Anthony and she is warned to suppress her feelings although her urges become unbearable. As the story unfolds, Sonia is forced to trust Anthony when her mom is kidnapped. They formulate a plan to enter the invisible island of Wraithsong so they can save Sonia's mom with the help of trusted people, yet the plan is thwarted when Sonia is also taken. The race against time begins and so does the discovery of Sonia's mystery fifth power.

Wraithsong is the first book in the Desirable Creatures series by E.J. Squires. I must say that this book had me hooked from start to finish. What a wonderful imagination the author has with the ability to capture the reader within the first few pages. The plot and the main two characters of Sonia and Anthony were like a modern day Romeo and Juliet. The style and the creativity of this novel was on another level. I especially like the quotes at the beginning and the end which gave it an extra edge which was integrated well within the storyline. Overall, I would recommend this book as it captured my heart as well as my imagination.

Wraithsong is the first book in the Desirable Creatures Series by E.J. Squires. At seventeen, Sonia Fredriksen would have given anything to be a normal teenager and live freely without the restriction of her special powers. Her mother has warned her time and again against misusing her gift, but when a mean girl pushes her to her limits, she goes for her ultimate weapon. Her actions see her end up in the principal's office and her punishment is to help Anthony in the school garden. When Sonia meets Anthony, she is immediately and intensely attracted to him but he does not seem to feel the same way about her and even her magical powers are of no help. Sonia is willing to break all the rules to win Anthony over. However, she does not know the full extent of her special powers and can only be given this knowledge after her 18th birthday. Unfortunately, her mother goes missing just before her birthday. She joins forces with Anthony in an effort to find and rescue her mother, but they are greatly outnumbered by the conniving enemies who are led by none other than Anthony's mother. When she finds herself on the invisible island, she has several decisions to make; to trust Anthony or to trust her abductors? To run or to stay and look for her mother? She will need to trust her instincts if she is to win the tragic battle that is still ahead.

Wraithsong by E.J. Squires is an amazing story about a girl who, on top of being at a fragile age as a teenager, has to deal with secret powers that mess with her emotions and can either be her salvation or undoing. E.J. Squires' writing style and skill sets a tone and mood that perfectly fits the plot and the characters, each in their different way, bring this incredible story to life. The manner in which the story bounces between the contemporary setting and the fantasy world is done in such way that is very distinct and flawless, and adds to the excitement to give a thrilling reading experience. I totally enjoyed this page-turner and I cannot wait to pick up book II and see where the story goes from here.

Wraithsong is the first volume of E.J. Squires' Desirable Creatures series. It's a fast-paced and very entertaining young adult fantasy that's based on Norse mythology. Sonia is almost eighteen, and her birthday can't come soon enough. She's been in a holding pattern for most of her teenage years. Her parents have told her that she's different, and that her saliva can make even enemies become devoted fans. This means dating and boyfriends are out of the picture, at least until she's eighteen. Sonia can't even go to her senior prom, which she didn't really mind that much about as there were no boys that she was interested in anyway. Everything changes when she meets Anthony.

I quickly became engrossed in E.J. Squires' young adult fantasy/coming of age story, Wraithsong. Sonia is a strong and capable character, and her friend, Ashley, is a great foil for her. Ashley takes no abuse sitting down, while Sonia's been schooled to react passively, and has been given vague promises about everything making sense when she's 18. Sonia just wants to be a normal teen, and yet, she's still intrigued by her Norse ancestry and the gift her parents call 'flair.' Her meeting with the somewhat dour and very sexy Anthony is inspired, and Sonia's character and her handling of dilemmas really come out strong from that point on. Squires adroitly keeps the reader and Sonia guessing throughout Wraithsong. It's filled with action and adventure and elegantly understated romantic tension. Wraithsong is highly recommended for fantasy and young adult readers alike.

Sonia has always known she was different, but her mom won't explain anything until her eighteenth birthday. Anthony is a senior, and nothing like any guy Sonia has met before; in fact he is the first and only guy she has been attracted to. When her mother disappears, Sonia is forced to rely on Anthony, even if his mother might be behind her mother's disappearance. Wraithsong: Desirable Creature is the start of what looks to be a wonderful new series. The touching and innocent romance between Anthony and Sonia, in spite of everything going on around them, will touch your heart. E.J. Squires has a magic ability to weave Norse mythology with romance and danger and produce a novel that is unequaled.

Wraithsong is scheduled to be the first book in a series, and I have to admit that I hate the end of the book, well, not really, but it is emotionally charged. The characters all have something about them that allows you to relate to them, or you know someone like them and feel like they are truly a part of your world, or you are part of theirs. E.J. Squires is able to create such characters and places effectively. I totally felt a part of this novel, and was heartbroken when it ended. How I am going to wait for the next book is beyond me. This book is about teens, and it is well written and appropriate for teens, as well as adults. This book will appeal to so many readers on so many different levels.

Senior year is a time for a lot of excitement and planning for the future. Sonia has the added pressure of knowing that there is something special about her that will be revealed on her 18th birthday. Wraithsong: Desirable Creatures, Book 1 by E.J. Squires follows Sonia as she navigates typical high school problems. including finding the perfect guy. Torn between the pull of her intense feelings for Anthony and her parents’ rules about dating, Sonia decides to see where her interest in Anthony will take her, only to be pulled into a fight for her life and that of her mother and aunts, all of whom are not what they seem. As things get crazier, Sonia comes to depend more on Anthony who may also not be what she thinks he is. Should she trust him? When her life is on the line, will it be Anthony who saves her or will she lose everything, including her mom?

Wraithsong: Desirable Creatures, Book 1 by E.J. Squires is a well-written story with plenty of action, humor, and a budding love interest between 2 people who may not be meant for each other. Norse mythology and supernatural abilities are the tools Sonia can use to save herself, but she hasn’t yet learned about her gifts and what they mean. Just like any high school senior, she is facing an uncertain future and has to balance what she has been brought up to believe with the hope that she is making the right decisions. What she is up against on the surface is easy for anyone to relate to, but what happens in the end is something that not many have to face. Thoroughly enjoyable and well written. I loved it! I can't wait to see what happens next!
