Wyshea Shadows by Geoffrey Saign is the first book, a brilliant opening, in the Divided Draghons series, an epic fantasy that will, undoubtedly, appeal to young adult readers. Meet three powerful women: Famere, Jennelle, and Camette, each with a powerful mission and purpose, each poised to destroy the other. Famere is the wyshea butcher who wants vengeance and she seeks the help of the loyal beasts called shadows. Jennelle is a warrior who has developed great skills in fighting and who will do everything to keep her people safe. Camette is a wild draghon in search of her kidnapped lover. Beyond their personal differences, desires, and dreams, there is one thing that worries each of them: the hundred-year dark sky and death mists. Who is responsible for them?
Geoffrey Saign has created a wonderful story with very complex and interesting characters. It’s sometimes dark, sometimes humorous, yet the plot remains gripping with many surprising turns and twists. The story is original and readers will love the character development. Each character is unique and drawn into a conflict that is beyond them. The setting is a mythical land, an abstract, enticing world the reader will love to explore. The story opens with words the reader wouldn’t want to ignore, words that arrest the attention of the reader, and force them to read on: “Camette knew she was going to die.” In clear and exotic prose, the author weaves a story that reads like a dream. I loved the fast-paced action, the unusual characters, the beautiful themes, and the whole world of Wyshea Shadows. It’s a story you won’t put down easily.
