Yoga: 4-Week Step By Step Guide for Beginners is packed with information and terminology for the beginner in yoga practices. Included are the many health reasons you should practice yoga, how yoga can assist with weight loss, and how to focus and learn to be calm through easy poses and warm-up exercises. The illustrations in the book are helpful as well, and author Jill Hesson provides a simple guide to beginner yoga positions with precise instructions and photos. The guide starts with easy sitting poses, then progresses to standing poses and more advanced moves like shoulder stands and the tree pose. The beginner will move through these stages, guided with the instructions and illustrations, and should learn to make yoga a daily habit within a four-week time period.
I was interested in some of the accessories that might be needed in practicing yoga and was pleasantly surprised to find a list at the back of the book with suggestions for yoga mats, towels, blocks, and even clothing. Yoga: 4-Week Step By Step Guide for Beginners also includes a preview of a chakra book, which was an enjoyable bonus. As far as the yoga poses themselves, author Jill Hesson provides many of the common yoga poses, as well as some I had not seen before. The Crow Pose, for example, was one I had not seen before, and it looked hard! I’m looking forward to trying out these poses, and in particular, I like how they start easy and progress as the weeks move on. The book was put together very well, with an emphasis on guiding the beginner and making yoga a daily habit and routine. I recommend the book to beginners in yoga as well as those who want to incorporate new moves into their daily routine.
