Your Ex-Boyfriend Will Hate This by Blue Sullivan is advice to women who are experiencing a rather unenviable dating life. The author’s approach to this question is, in fact, an exhortation to all to re-examine their ideas of themselves, their own capacity to love and be loved, about pleasure, and the meaning they attribute to life. Discarding the ideals of ‘love at first sight’ as pure fiction, the problem, as Sullivan says, is one of perception, and pontificates on critical questions. For example, what are the types of men to be avoided? He comes up with a list of five types of benign jerks and the malignant one – the selfish abuser. This book is designed to help one unearth the “rules” which best suit one's nature and achieve unlimited gratification and success.

Your Ex-Boyfriend Will Hate This by Blue Sullivan is a complete analysis of dating, especially from the viewpoint of the female participant. Steps are recommended for having a meaningful dating experience and pitfalls are dealt with accordingly. Throughout the book, many approaches are mentioned to assuage one's hurt feelings if encountering failure. But the author, I notice, has not given any remedial tips or advice specifically directed at the male participant, though there are chances that he may be equally hurt, if not more. Also, the analysis of the problem is more towards the abstract, restricting the use of these suggestions directly in one's dating experiences, or rather, encouraging one to be acquainted with the ideas presented here before attempting a date.
