Things to Do Before Submitting Your Book for a Review

Having your book reviewed by a professional can be very beneficial. A positive review can boost the sales of your book and spread the word around. An unbiased review from a third party will give you credibility and make sure that you get more visibility. Now that book bloggers are more active on social media, they can be easily approached to review novels. However, most bloggers are very transparent and they post their honest reviews. If they feel that the book is not up to par with the current market standards, they will say so.

This is why authors have to be very careful before they send their novels to be reviewed. You need to be absolutely sure that your novel is ready to be reviewed and impress the reviewer. It should be perfect!

Here are some things that you need to do before you send your book to be reviewed for a positive outcome.

1. You can always ask your friends and family to read your book and give you a feedback, but there is a problem with that. Getting your feedback from a friend or a family member is different from getting it from a professional. You would have to pay a professional, but it will be worth it. The constructive criticism you will get from a professional will help you revise, edit and perfect your content.

2. Formatting your book is an essential task that should never be ignored. You need to go through your book with a fine-tooth comb to get rid of random bold and italicized words, find your common errors, spelling mistakes and such to finesse it.

3. You need to decide on a genre for your book to fall into so that you can find the right reviewer for your book. Reviewers have their preferred genres so you have to be careful about that. For example, if your novel is romance, you need to decide if it is a YA romance, contemporary romance, paranormal romance or women’s fiction.

4. Set up your book pages on major retailers such as Amazon, Kobo and Barnes and Nobles so that reviewers can post their reviews on those platforms. You should also make a page for your book on Goodreads and such platforms so that the review posted by the reviewer can have maximum impact in your target market.

5. When you receive your review, you should take the criticism with grace. Remember that when you send your book for review, you must prepare yourself for both negative and positive reviews. Thank them for their effort and their time and improve where they said that you fell short in any area.

These are some things that you need to do before you send your book to be reviewed. Since the reviewer will review the book by being unbiased, you need to make sure that your book is perfect before you send it off for review. These things may take time and cost you money, but they will be worth it in the end.
