A New Baby For Christmas by Bron Whitley is a cute story for children. Six-year-old Layla is a worrywart. She worries where her Mema will sleep when she visits, and she also worries about what will change when the new baby arrives. She knows that she should not worry so much but she cannot help it.

I thought A New Baby For Christmas was a charming little story. Whitley has done an excellent job of writing in a six-year-old’s voice. Layla is a lovable character that made me see new ways and things that my child may think or worry about. Layla reminded me of my own daughter a lot, especially with her worrying about everything. I think that every child worries about what things will change when a new baby is going to come. Layla’s lists were adorable. I wish I could make lists like her. I really appreciated that Whitley explained what Boxing Day was. I had no idea what people did on that day and I always thought it pertained to the sport of boxing rather than actual boxes.

I read this story with my 4-year-old daughter and she also enjoyed it. Her favorite part was when Layla and her family went to the zoo and were able to feed a baby kangaroo. This part made me more curious about Australia. The story itself was a little too complex for my daughter to read by herself so I recommend it for ages 6 and up.
