"Bizzy Bee and the Flowers" by Jill Warren is a delightful book. The cover is brightly illustrated and will tempt children to pick it up and look inside. There is a picture of Bizzy the bee and a variety of flowers: roses, sunflowers, daisies and one of my favorites, dandelions. The illustrations are superbly done by Kalpart.

The story is cute and informative. It contains information about bumblebees. In our story Bizzy, a male bumblebee, flies off on his own searching for pollen, nectar and a flower to call his home. Warren shares small details I have never considered such as: “Bizzy will spend his days alone and will sleep on a flower petal.” This small book is filled with lessons. Bizzy wants to mark a tall beautiful sunflower with his scent and call it his own. The sunflower disagrees; she is too special and beautiful to belong to Bizzy. The sunflower is very rude. He flies to a delicate flower, protected by a rock, but much too timid. The roses are too thorny. Finally, he meets a friendly flower, a daisy, that invites him to stay.

There are several lessons in this small book: not to judge by appearance, acceptance, diversity, and teamwork. These are lessons we want our children to learn and Jill Warren lays them out in a manner that will please children. While this book is teaching a social lesson there is also a science lesson. Warren is the author of "Abe’s Lucky Day". Her books are delightful and easy to recommend. My only suggestions would be to change the type of cover. I would prefer a hard back because it lasts longer. Well done Ms Warren.
