Bold and Brave is a children’s picture book written and illustrated by K.A. Cummins. The story follows Lily, a little girl who will be singing a solo in the school’s choir performance. Unfortunately, she feels overwhelmed and scared because everyone will be looking at her at the center of the stage. Her autism heightens her fear, makes her more sensitive to her surroundings, and gives her a vivid imagination. Fortunately, her parents give her a gift to make her feel bolder and braver, but will she overcome her fears? Get a copy of this book to find out.
Bold and Brave is an inspiring story that will motivate children to face their fears and feel loved and cared for. Lily has a loving family, caring teachers, and classmates who believe in her and help her overcome her stage fright. It was not about the gift but was about the people cheering her on. K.A. Cummins also raises awareness about autism and the challenges that people living with it go through. Lily’s view of the world is different and is perfectly depicted by images that show her being sensitive to sounds and light, and having thoughts of wild animals. I loved the beautiful illustrations because they were colorful and corresponded perfectly with the story. I hope to read more from this author because this is a brilliant work. I highly recommend parents and caregivers read this book with their children, teach them how to be brave, and assure them of your love and care.
