Breaking The Chains: Strategic Thinking to Empower Yourself is a work of non-fiction on the subject of start-up businesses and self-help through empowerment, penned by author Lucas Keys. Working somewhere between the extreme opposites of inferiority and superiority complexes that can cause immense problems in any new start-up business, the author explores the correct approach to recognizing where this so-called ‘mental trap’ may catch people out when engaging in business. By recognizing the need to learn and develop in different areas and having a realistic attitude to the concept of perfectionism, the chapters in this guide build towards a low-failure, high-success personality for business and beyond.

Author Lucas Keys has created a very well organized and innovative guide that is both concise and filled with useful information for any prospective entrepreneur. One of the things I found most impressive about it was the chapter structure, which builds from its initial general concepts about the nature of new start-up businesses, and the common pitfalls, into a much deeper, psychological and even philosophical understanding of the self, which breeds a kind of self-awareness that is a good attitude for success. The step by step approach follows a great logical progression to its end goals, and Nguyen’s narrative voice is crafted in a friendly and approachable way that spells things out in clear terms. There’s also an excellent atmosphere of positivity and inclusion, giving a final feeling of ‘you can do this too’ that’s very inspiring to read. Overall, Breaking The Chains: Strategic Thinking to Empower Yourself is a highly recommended preparatory read for anyone considering starting a business.

Breaking The Chains: Strategic Thinking to Empower Yourself by Lucas Keys is an insightful book for readers who are keen to achieve their goals and become successful in a competitive world. The book targets start-ups and small businesses and is somewhat useful to big businesses too. Many startups are not successful and many of these startup owners are inexperienced. That makes their strategy weak. This book encourages them to create a winning strategy and also speaks about overcoming illusory superiority and illusory inferiority in their minds so that they become successful in a competitive world. Though strategy originated in war, it has become important in all aspects of life. The author cites the Dunning and Kruger effect while speaking about the incompetence of many small businesses and startups and how their limited knowledge leads to bad decisions.

Breaking The Chains gives good insights on how to have more strategic breakthrough ideas, knowing that everything need not be perfect. Lucas Keys offers advice that really works, shows how an innovative approach to thinking can be beneficial, and helps in identifying that success is a process, not a goal. It is a good book to avoid the risk of failure and the author's step-by-step approach to the topic is useful when it comes to understanding the concept and applying it. Reading this book will make readers learn so that they will be able to understand their lack of knowledge and experience when it comes to handling their startups and small businesses. It is definitely a handy manual for readers who want to have a creative strategy for their business and become successful by becoming more aware, understanding, and knowledgeable.

Breaking the Chains: Strategic Thinking to Empower Yourself by Lucas Keys is a non-fiction self-help book for individuals who are interested in becoming entrepreneurs and starting their own business, as well as those who make the choice not to out of fear. Nguyen offers strategic insight to maximize the chances of success, breaking down walls that seem insurmountable and delivering sound, proven advice. Spread out over nine separate and distinct chapters, Nguyen covers everything from strategy backgrounds and the psychology of entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs, to start-up approaches and problem-solving. A glossary of terms is available and charts, illustrations, and inspirational quotes are sprinkled throughout.

Breaking the Chains takes a different approach than most guides on entrepreneurship. Instead of just focusing on the nuts and bolts of how to start and build a business, Lucas Keys redirects readers to the absolute importance of having a clear mind and outlook, and how to apply success-building strategies effectively. My favorite part was on the downside of success being a precursor to those same individuals believing they can simply replicate that success again with the same mentality, the same strategy, and the exact same way they did before. The result is almost always an inevitable failure, applying outdated thinking to new ideas. The example given relates to Kodak, which is a fitting company to include. There's a lot of sound advice in what Nguyen has to say, and I believe it will be helpful to those who take the positive first steps in reading it.

The methods covered in this guide are like no other I have come across. I thought the explanation into the mindset of successful people really made sense. It is a new but refreshing angle on the mindset of setting goals in reaching success. The explanation into the vicious circle many intelligent people face when trying anything new was a real 'aha' moment. But the wonderful insights didn't end there; this guide is full of them. Dealing with challenges and obstacles correctly and the section on why you shouldn't set goals was superb advice. My favorite sections were on the subjects of Emotional Quotient and Analysis Paralysis - the explanations here were invaluable. I loved the analogy of repairing the hole in the ship; it sums up the entire message of the book. Breaking The Chains by Lucas Keys can be used if you want to succeed in business, but using the techniques can make the difference in achieving success in any area of your life.
