Grace had to overcome a painful tragedy and is doing her best to live each day. Her counselor, Ben Hardy, believes he can be the one to bring healing to Grace and give her back the beautiful life that she had before her painful episode. Not only does he desperately want healing for Grace, but he hopes that by helping this poor, broken soul he can help himself to get past the demons haunting him from his secretive past. He doesn't tell Grace about this looming secret because he's afraid it will make her love him less. But what will happen if Grace finds out on her own? Will it shatter the fragile trust that is building between the two of them? Their budding romance can't handle any more secrets and lies...but Ben doesn't know how to come clean.

Butterfly by Elle Harper and Sibel Hodge is a contemporary romance with the adult theme of girl with a painful past. This book has some adult themes that include a rough past and some skeletons in the closet that are a little dark for a traditional romance. That doesn't mean they don't fit into this story. I liked the grittiness the premise brought to the plot. I liked the relationship that built between Grace and Ben and how it started slowly and built over time, the way trust builds. It felt very authentic and I liked that about the story.
